Traditionally a festival of making based in Wellington each Queen’s Birthday weekend, the first ever HANDMADE For the Holidays is being held in Wellington on Saturday 7 November 2020.

Our programme features 19 fabulous hands-on workshops to choose from. Learn a new skill and make something special for yourself or as a gift. Fill your day or pick a favourite from our jolly line-up.

Our workshops will be followed by a festive night market from 5 – 8pm. Free entry and all welcome so invite your friends along too! Find unique gifts and shop local from a collection of quality makers. Purchase and enjoy mulled wine or a glass of bubbles as you shop. A great way to start the festive season.

Working with 15 to 20 gram samples you will cast on a narrow swatch, trying different stitches to see how they perform. Curated by the Yarn Queen you will learn about the different features of fibres and yarns and how that affects the finished fabric. Try different yarns with lace, cable and ribbing patterns. During the 2.5-hour workshop, you’ll make two edible goodies: a rich and nutty chocolate panforte reminiscent of traditional Christmas cakes from Siena, and a French nougat. Pal Tiya is an incredible sculpting material that can last outside for centuries! Pal Tiya is been used to create many amazing things from film sets to full scale dragons to fairy houses. Place your finished gnome fantasy door pride of place inside – or stow it away in the garden to create your own magical gnome fantasy door.

Note: finished workshop product is unpainted. PalTiya requires several days to cure and dry before paint can be applied. You’ll receive a demonstration towards the end of your workshop about how to paint your finished piece once it has cured.
