Dress to Impress: Colourful Papillon Shawl

Have you seen the stunning Papillon Shawl and assumed it was too complex? This beautiful shawl actually uses very simple techniques accessible to beginners! Cast on your Papillon and we will share all the skills, tips and tricks you need to achieve this! You need to know how to cast on and do knit stitch. Knowing an increase would be great but is not required. We will cover everything else you need!

    • Skill level:  NOVICE  – basic beginner skills required (you don’t need to have mastered them yet)
    • Time: 9 – 11am, Sat 5 June
    • Cost: $165 including required skeins of yarn, but excluding pattern and needles.
      The pattern is $10 at class or bring your own copy if you already have it. Bring a circular needle in your preferred size for working with 4 ply/fingering weight yarn, or needles will be available to purchase at class if required.

A Deeper Dive Into the World of Knitting with The Yarn Queen

Have you learned the basics of knitting but want to move beyond scarves and dishcloths? Join Joy Wintour from The Yarn Queen as she shares a selection of techniques that you can add to your knitting repertoire so you can tackle a range of projects with confidence! Including understanding your fabric and “reading” your knitting to understand mistakes, fixing common simple mistakes (including picking up a dropped stitch), reading knitting patterns and knitting charts, increasing and decreasing stitches (including how to master the yarnover), understanding tension, demystifying knitting in the round, and introduction to lace and cables.

    • Skill level:  NOVICE  – You need to know how to do knit and purl stitches, and be able to cast on your swatch (even if with outside help) – but you don’t need to be good at them!
    • Time: 2 – 5pm, Sat 5 June
    • Cost: $59

      Bring a stocking stitch swatch in your choice of  4 ply to 10 play yarn. To make this, cast on roughly 20 stitches. Knit a row, then purl a row, and repeat, alternating knit rows and purl rows until you have knitted about 6 – 8 rows. Do not cast off, leave on your needles. Don’t worry if it isn’t pretty!

      You may also bring specific projects that you are stuck on and/or specific questions for Joy to help you troubleshoot if time allows.

So Fresh and So Clean – Knitted Cotton Face Cloth

Blanket Statement: An Intro to Surface Crochet

Surface crochet is the technique of crocheting decorative elements onto a completed piece of crochet, and with it you can do all sorts of beautiful, flat and 3d embellishments. If you have ever seen beautiful, intricate crochet blankets (like the famous Sophie’s Universe) then surface crochet is what you need! We will teach you the basics of surface crochet so that you can tackle those 3D blankets with confidence. You must be confident with chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet (using American terms, also known as double crochet and treble crochet using English terms). Although rated as skilled, we welcome confident beginners who are comfortable with these basic stitches.

Introduction to Tunisian Crochet

Tunisian crochet is often described as a combination of knitting and crochet, and is a quick and easy way to make a range of amazing projects including homewares, shawls, scarves and garments. In this class you will make a kitchen item (pot holder, dish cloth, or trivet) as you learn the basics of this craft, including casting on, working a foundation row, working the basic stitch, and casting off. We can add extra stitches for adventurous learners.
